On June 19, 1863, Union Army general Gordon Granger proclaimed freedom for enslaved people in Texas under President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, General Order No. 3.  Texas was the last Confederate state with institutional slavery. Today, we celebrate the 157th anniversary of the last African American slaves being freed.

Jason Ezell, a 2022 ÑÇɫӰ¿â from North Platte, is the winner of this year’s Dean B. Stewart Memorial Award for Courage. This award was instituted by the fraternity brothers of Dean Stewart ('62) in recognition of his tireless work to re-connect members of Phi Kappa Tau in their post-college lives, even as he was suffering from a progressively disabling neurological disease.
